
The Rev. James Martin is a Jesuit Catholic priest, a best-selling author and the editor at large at America Magazine. He is also a consultant to the Vatican’s communication department. Part of Father Martin’s job is to help explain the Catholic Church to Americans, which he does on social media, in his writing and even on late-night talk shows. He has ministered to L.G.B.T.Q. Catholics and is part of the progressive wing of the church. Over the past year, American bishops and clergy have increasingly spoken out against President Trump’s policies, including on immigration. Father Martin shared his views on the immigration crackdown and the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
