The Official And Now Love Podcast: www.andnowlove.com In this podcast episode, Dr. Alan J. Coe, a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist specializing in addiction, discusses his approach to treating addiction and mental health issues through psychoanalysis. He contrasts this with the more prevalent cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), explaining that while CBT focuses on retraining behaviors, psychoanalysis aims to uncover and address unconscious beliefs rooted in early experiences. Dr. Coe emphasizes the importance of understanding the mother's imprint in shaping personality and addiction tendencies. He also highlights the role of social support in addiction recovery and the impact of societal influences, such as social media and peer pressure, on mental health. The conversation touches on the need for broader education about mental health and addiction, advocating for a more compassionate and in-depth approach to treatment.
