winter of 2001, inside of a Southern California police department, a fax machine in the corner of the room suddenly came to life. A moment later, a few pieces of paper fell into the tray, and an officer walked over and began reading them. As he did, his eyes went wide. The fax was a gold mine of evidence for an ongoing murder investigation that had begun to stall, so this fax was a major breakthrough.
