In July 2015, beloved chiropractor Mary Yoder died suddenly in Utica, New York after falling violently ill. Toxicology later revealed lethal levels of colchicine in her system, a prescription drug she was never prescribed. In Part 1, suspicion shifted from Mary’s husband, Dr. William “Bill” Yoder, to her son, Adam Yoder, after an anonymous letter led investigators to a bottle of colchicine hidden in Adam’s Jeep. But in Part 2, everything changes. Digital evidence begins to tell a different story, one that points to Kaitlyn Conley, the Yoders’ office manager and Adam’s former girlfriend. Investigators uncover: a secret Gmail account used to order colchicine, prepaid credit cards purchased under suspicious circumstances, internet searches about lethal dosages, a draft of the anonymous letter saved to cloud storage, and phone backups that would become central at trial. In 2017, Kaitlyn Conley was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in Oneida County Court. She was sentenced to 23 years in prison. But in January 2025, her conviction was overturned on appeal due to issues surrounding the search warrant used to examine her phone. She was released from custody, and now prosecutors are fighting to retry the case before the statute of limitations runs out. With key evidence sealed, digital forensics under scrutiny, and legal battles ongoing, the death of Mary Yoder remains one of central New York’s most controversial homicide cases.
