These Milankovitch cycles still don't entirely satisfy our need to explain the bistability of the system: what causes the Earth to regularly jump from glacial to interglacial over the course of a few tens to hundreds of years? Lance Weaver from the Utah Geology website suggests the hypothesis that a true polar wander would neatly fill in the blanks, whereby some variety of mass imbalance would cause a true pole shift event that snapped the axis of the Earth between two stable barycenters.
