Tragically, her life was cut short on April 26, 1999, when she was shot dead in broad daylight outside her London home. As a BBC presenter on the Six O'clock News, Holiday, and Crimewatch, she was loved by thousands and her death sent shockwaves across the country. It became the largest murder investigation in the history of the Metropolitan Police, since the hunt for The Yorkshire Ripper. There were so many theories surrounding her sudden murder. A year after her murder, they charged Barry George, a bit of a local oddball, based mostly on this single particle of gunshot residue found in his coat.
