The loss would mark not only a symbolic setback but also signal a broader Ukrainian decline across the front. Ukraine’s own reports show the scale of Russian firepower: in just one day, Russia launched 74 glide bombs and 5,400 drone attacks, overwhelming Ukrainian defenses already suffering from severe manpower shortages — in Picrosk, reportedly an 8-to-1 disadvantage. Ukrainian commanders, including General Syrskyi, have shifted focus to keeping supply and evacuation routes open, suggesting preparations for a potential withdrawal. President Zelensky continues to claim Russian forces are being destroyed “bit by bit,” but reports from soldiers on the ground depict chaotic conditions — units cut off, communication failures due to power and radio shortages, and uncertainty about the location of friendly forces. Russia has abandoned its earlier “meat wave” assaults and now uses small, constant infiltration groups (two to three soldiers at a time) supported by drones, artillery, and precision fire — a method designed to maintain pressure while minimizing Russian casualties. On the map, Russian troops have advanced deep into central Picrosk, including the railroad district, and are tightening their grip on surrounding areas like Margrad to the north and south. Ukraine is attempting limited counterattacks near Rodinska to keep an escape corridor open, but lacks reserves to mount any broader offensive. Overall, the Russian approach — slow, methodical, and attrition-based — appears to be steadily grinding down Ukrainian defenses, bringing Russia closer to another major battlefield victory since Avdiivka and potentially signaling a turning point in the war.
