Rekindle the old ways of learning with Randall Carlson: sacred geometry, ancient mysteries & the hidden patterns of our world: https://www.skool.com/kosmogonia/about The Finger Lakes are not just scenic lakes. They may be the footprint of a catastrophic landscape event that still shapes how we understand North America. Darren and Randall use a recent trip to New York as a launch point for a much bigger investigation: why Niagara Falls, Letchworth Gorge, Watkins Glen, and the Finger Lakes themselves look so much like the scarred terrain of the Channeled Scablands. The result is a sweeping, map-driven conversation that turns a vacation recap into a forensic look at megafloods, water gaps, drumlins, moraines, and underfit rivers. You'll discover how Randall compares the scale of Niagara to Dry Falls, why the Finger Lakes radiate toward Lake Ontario, and how the Valley Heads Moraine may mark the edge of a much larger glacial system. Darren pushes the conversation toward the practical question every listener will be asking: if these features were carved by water, how much water are we really talking about? We break down the evidence behind: Niagara Falls versus ancient flood discharge rates Why Letchworth Gorge and Devil's Canyon behave like breached spillways How drumlins, current ripples, and water gaps point to high-energy flows Why the sediments at Tammany Gully and Burlingame Gully matter What Wallula Gap, the Columbia Gorge, and the Finger Lakes may have in common Randall also connects the dots from the Finger Lakes to the larger story of glacial outburst flooding across North America, from the Rocky Mountain Trench and Flathead Lake to the Missouri River Breaks, Lake Agassiz, and beyond. Along the way, he argues that the landscape itself may be preserving evidence of repeated catastrophic surges, not slow and gentle change. This episode matters if you care about geology, Ice Age catastrophes, or the possibility that familiar landscapes are hiding a far bigger story than mainstream explanations allow. If you've ever looked at a river valley and wondered how it got there, this conversation will change how you see it.
