Their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered their bodies after first responders were called to the residence in the afternoon. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled their deaths homicides, caused by multiple sharp force injuries. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested later that same day and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths. He is being held without bail, and prosecutors have noted special allegations related to multiple killings and the use of a deadly weapon. Nick Reiner has a documented history of mental health struggles and substance abuse. In the weeks prior to the killings he was reportedly undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and addiction, with at least one adjustment to his psychiatric medications said to have contributed to unstable behavior, according to some sources.
