Terri Joe identifies as a Christian who believes in the necessity of repentance from sin.

He indicates that his experience of seeing a statue of Jesus underwater while scuba diving was a significant, cool moment for him.

“I was able to swim all the way down to this submerged statue okay of Jesus with his hands outstretched beauti and I flipper down my big flipper feet with even extended flippers on them and I dude I tried three times but one of the times I was able to actually go his hand you da you da up Jesus”
