Actors must create detailed internal backstories to justify complex character motivations, even when the characters' actions seem contradictory or extreme.

“I did create that backstory. I sat with I remember I told Joseph, Isaac, and with Gary Lennon, our showrunner, I created a whole backstory in my head to make some of this make sense because obviously I would never go against my brother trying to kill my brother.”

Lisa Kudrow believes that characters created and performed over a long period develop an energy that continues to exist and can be accessed by the actor.

“I believe that those characters would still exist somewhere and that I would visit them sometimes because I would be like know them so intimately for so long that in a quiet moment if I was by myself tidying my bedroom, I could sort of close my eyes and be like, where is this character right now?”
