The Colorado River water allocation agreement is currently facing a catastrophic crisis due to over-allocation and environmental changes like reduced snowmelt.

“So they're trying to figure this out obviously because this is a big problem as the river compact is is coming due for re-upping or renegotiating or whatever.”

The Colorado River compact has resulted in a self-defeating cycle where the ability to use water for development has driven population growth that further strains the already limited water supply.

“Yeah, because there's almost a self-defeating pickle that they've been in just from sharing this. By having access to that water, they've been able to boom like cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, um uh Phoenix, Tucson.”
