Dave Portnoy argues that the use of a homophobic slur by Harry Jowsey is inherently hateful and unacceptable, regardless of the context in which it was used.

“I think most people who hear it um especially if you're talking about a gay person while when you say it comes across as hateful. It comes across as a hateful word. I think everyone like there there's words that that convey hate. That is one of them. So you can't say it.”

Josh Richards believes Harry Jowsey is being dishonest about his progressive values because the homophobic slur he used came out too easily in private.

“Like it seems like he just says that behind closed doors all the time. Like the way he was talking in conversation. And I don't know if you heard it, but it just slipped out super easy.”
