Dr. Amen contends that ADHD is frequently under-diagnosed in females and individuals who do not exhibit hyperactivity due to gender bias in the healthcare system.

“Under-diagnosed especially in people who are not hyperactive or females. Because we still have gender bias in this country.”

Women's health is severely underserved in medical research and clinical care compared to men's health due to a lack of specialists and insufficient training.

“It's a huge problem. We don't have enough specialties of medicine that focus on women's health and we don't have enough like manpower behind us.”
