The samples returned by the OSIRIS-REx mission provide a scientific breakthrough because they contain primitive carbon chemistry preserved in pristine space conditions.

“and so it's very hard to collect this these kind of samples in a free sample from space and a meteorite and that's why going and get this getting this kind of sample was really a scientific breakthrough”

The mission was a success because it collected enough material to meet scientific goals despite unexpected challenges with the surface structure.

“So, the PI had to make some quick decisions with the associate administrator of NASA and other people to basically stow the sample much quicker than we had expected to prevent more from loss. But of course, as you know, we got the hundred and 22 grams of sample, hundred 21 point six”

The OSIRIS-REx mission provides a unique opportunity to study asteroid composition up close and understand potential future collisions with Earth.

“that's one of the reasons we go to study them in space because if we go up close to them we can see exactly what they're doing we see what they're made of what shape they are and and what is sitting on their surface that's going to affect all of these things”
