Mentalism is a form of magic that relies on deception, psychology, and observation to create the illusion of mind reading.

“A mentalist is a form of a magician. I want to tell you what I'm not. I am not psychic. I do not have supernatural powers. I cannot talk to the dead. When people ask me, "What is it that you're performing?" They are tricks. That is the truth.”

He claims that mentalism is a difficult skill that is fundamentally different from magic because it cannot be practiced alone and requires improv.

“Mentalism is very different because again it's like comedy you can't really practice. So a lot of the stuff when you see me do it on TV you are actually seeing me do that for the very first time there.”

Mentalism involves highly stressful, binary outcomes that require the performer to remain calm under significant pressure.

“How do you put yourself in that position consistently and just stay calm enough to do those things when the the outcome's binary? That's so stressful. How do you do it?”

He believes the mentalist's tricks are impressive but expects he will figure out how the magician performed them.

“I'm gonna re-watch this like a thousand this is a lot of Chess here showing that's [ __ ] crazy that's crazy I have chills I'm spooked”

He views the mentalist's performance as high-level magic that is truly mind-blowing.

“I think you're a wizard Loki of course okay okay a little surprised to kick off I don't know what day of the week it is Tuesday yeah yep yep it's Tuesday a couple days later ran the marathon feeling good now I'm gonna have to re-watch all this”
