The current Russia-Ukraine war is undergoing a technological revolution that makes modern warfare significantly more unpredictable than past conflicts.

“Every 3 months, there's a new page. First, it was single-person drones, then it was jamming, then it was drones with missiles, then it was water-based drones, then it was mass drones, then it was Shahed drones, then it was Shahed drones that could do a limited amount of target selection.”

The evolution of modern conflict is increasingly characterized by proxy warfare between major powers rather than direct interstate confrontation.

“I believe World War II is already happening because I believe World War II is a proxy war. It is a proxy conflict.”

Andy Stumpf argues that killing should be a last resort and warns against the potential for technology to make people flippant about the weight of taking a life.

“Killing is so romanticized in so many ways. And it is something that I God, it should be a last resort. And I don't know if you should remove the complexity and difficulty associated with that. With suddenly the flippancy that people can find around that.”

Modern warfare has been revolutionized by the proliferation of cheap guided weapons and drones which render expensive legacy military systems largely obsolete.

“the acceleration um with uh extremely cheap guided weapons whether it's a cheap drone cheap missile long range missiles Etc everything the the explosion of that AI on the edge um on that individual device and its ability to guide targets has largely rendered billions hundreds of billions of dollars ”

The tank remains relevant in modern warfare if it evolves with new technology, despite the increased threat from drones.

“I think the tank will still have relevance when we think about firepower protection and mobility, you still need to be able to hold ground.”
