Scientologists are unwittingly manipulated into believing they are in a prison, similar to the premise of the movie The Matrix.

Her upbringing was within a cult that utilized brainwashing, isolation, and fear to strip children of their independence and identity.

“you can take the people out of the cult but you can't take the cult out of the people yeah so they kind of still stuck with that same way of doing things”

Cults typically employ a formula of offering proprietary self-help solutions while eventually requiring members to sacrifice everything to the organization.

“It usually starts with we have some proprietary way to help you in one way or another, whether it's spiritually, mentally. Not just help you, help the world. Save the world. Yeah, or it's there's there's some sort of mission statement that that you subscribe to that's greater than yourself, and but ”

She argues that cults exist on a continuum rather than being a binary classification of cult or not cult.

“The main takeaway is like there's no yes or no cult or not. Like it's not a binary. It exists on a continuum spectrum.”
