He claims that piracy is fundamentally about the circumvention of payment for a media good, though he acknowledges others define it based on legality.

“There are clearly folks who do not agree. To them piracy requires it to be illegal explicitly. That was and and I believe that is actually like dictionary definition.”

He suggests that piracy on streaming services has fallen out of vogue because subscription models already provide access to most content.

“I would say that music piracy, while maybe maybe it's not deemed more acceptable than before, it's certainly fallen out of vogue.”
