Soldiers in high-stakes environments can become addicted to the adrenaline rush of combat, which necessitates a psychological understanding of how to manage stress and transition.

“And that's a I mean that's a real issue because that happens to special ops guys. You get so addicted to the adrenaline finding something else that'll give you the adrenaline rush that's not maybe not quite as dangerous.”

Compartmentalization is the most important strength for maintaining effectiveness in special operations.

“Compartmentalization is like the number one strength.”

He believes the ability to compartmentalize emotions and switch gears between life-and-death combat and normalcy is a specific trait required for special operations.

“I think it takes that special type of person to be able to flip that switch immediately and um you know not everybody can do that.”
