Dr. Phil McGraw asserts that parents must avoid demeaning their children because insults are an ineffective and immature way to motivate them.

“That kind of of parenting is ineffective and immature. So, it's got to go on the hit list, to-do list.”

Faith believes she has been a good mother who loves her children but admits she failed to protect them from harm and past trauma.

“I feel like I was a good mom I love my children but I failed to protect them so I was not good at all I failed her miserably”

Joe Salihi admits that his practice of calling his stepdaughters dumb and stupid is ineffective and harmful.

“I agree. I just believe though that what he tries to say is that the way they're acting or um the things they have done are dumb and stupid and it comes out, you know, tell us.”

Olivia attributes many of Ivey's current behavioral issues and her lack of moral direction to Faith's history of poor parenting.

“I definitely do blame faith for a lot of the issues that Ivy has in her life today her mom was just never involved as a parent”
