The rut in Kansas appears to be running approximately seven to nine days behind the typical schedule.

“I truly feel like we're probably seven to nine days behind a typical rut schedule.”

Mature bucks are currently tending to stay near their does in a lockdown phase of the rut.

“I definitely think they're all a little bit more on lockdown right now.”

Mature bucks are most vulnerable and visible when they are moving between does, rather than when they are actively tending to their first doe.

“I really think a buck is most visible when he's between doese's as opposed to looking for that first one.”
