Raja Shehadeh believes the purpose of political writing is to document the situation clearly and avoid the mystification often used by colonizing powers to distort the truth.

“Well, I think the first thing is to uh um document and make clear what is the situation and avoid mystification. And I think the uh uh colonization works by mystifying by making people lose a sense of who they are”
