“If you're just going to fly high and give highlevel like inspirational speeches and then you know we'll trust and we'll delegate to people. It's not going to work. So my way is you know you got to get in the weeds.”

Leaders must directly address performance problems with individuals frequently rather than waiting for formal reviews to avoid employee shock.

“if I see you doing something I don't like, I go, "No, don't do it that way. Do it this way." Then you get desensitized to it. And so I think the mistake a lot of particular engineers make is they just don't say what they think when they think it because they're afraid of hurting someone's feelings.”
