Caleb Flynn's parents wrote Judge Jeannine Pratt two letters asking for mercy before his sentencing for the murder of Ashley Flynn, and his father's proof of character is a story about a jail guard on a video call. I read both letters line by line, and this episode goes through every claim in them. Mike and Kim Flynn pastored a Church of God congregation in Minnesota for twenty-two years. Their letters are dated October 2, 2026, three days after a Miami County jury convicted their son of aggravated murder. Mike told the judge it was "very nice to make your acquaintance during his trial," that Caleb "has never even seen the inside of a courtroom until now," and asked her to "use clemency." Kim asked the court to weigh "the 38 years before the recent choices he's made," called her son "never anything but respectful, polite and kind," and wrote that he "has repented to his Lord." Three days before she wrote that, she told a Dayton TV station, "He didn't do it. It was all circumstantial junk." Between them the letters run more than five hundred words, and the name Ashley is in neither one. Neither are the two granddaughters who lost their mother. Prosecutors answered the character case in their own sentencing memo. Before the girls' forensic interviews, they wrote, Caleb spoke to each daughter privately and told them what to say, because their words could be "the difference between life and death for him." His lawyer objected that the jury never heard that allegation, and Pratt let it in anyway. The judge then found on the record that Caleb Flynn demonstrates no remorse, said he used his faith "to manipulate the lives of others," and sentenced him to life without parole. His ten-year-old and twelve-year-old daughters wrote letters too, and one of them put Ashley's full name on the page. Their grandparents never did.
