Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott leads this combined look at Mica Miller’s writings, the push for Mica’s Law, and the life JP Miller built after her death. Scott’s focus is coercive control, the pattern Mica’s family says appears across her journals, police reports and court filings. Mica’s family has said her writings described forced medication, unwanted injections and sleep deprivation. Federal prosecutors later charged JP with cyberstalking and making false statements, alleging unwanted contact, financial interference, tire damage, an intimate image posted without consent and tracking devices placed on Mica’s vehicle. JP has pleaded not guilty and has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death. South Carolina still has not enacted a coercive-control crime. The proposal Mica’s family supports, SB 702, stalled in the 2026 session after seeking to add coercive control to the state’s domestic-violence laws. Scott explains why that legal gap matters when a pattern is built from pressure, surveillance, isolation and control rather than one single act. Then comes the part that makes the timeline even harder to ignore. JP married Suzie Skinner in June 2025. Her former husband, Army veteran Chris Skinner, died in a swimming-pool drowning in September 2021 that was ruled accidental. His family has publicly questioned that ruling, and the case has reportedly been revisited. No one has been charged in Chris Skinner’s death. Friends interviewed by Netflix alleged JP and Suzie were involved before Mica died. JP has denied that account and said the relationship began later. Scott examines what a rapid public reset can mean inside alleged controlling dynamics without treating a new relationship as proof of any crime.
