NY v Rex Heuermann aka Long Island Serial K!ller (LISK) Rex Heuermann, 62, was arrested in July of 2023, and originally charged with the m*rders of escorts Megan Barthelemy, 24, ( last seen 7/10/09) Megan Waterman, 22, (last seen 6/6/10) and Amber Costello, 27 (last seen 9/2/10) whose bodies were found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach, on Long Island in December 2010. Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa, Long Island, was arrested outside his midtown Manhattan office, after DNA from a discarded pizza crust linked him to the 3 women. Historically known as the "Gilgo 4" Heuermann was also the lead suspect in a fourth homicide, that of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, (last seen 7/9/07) although charges were not brought against him until January of 2024 in that case. Each of the four victims were found intact and similarly positioned, bound in a similar fashion by either belts or tape, with three of the victims found wrapped in a burlap-type material - all had missing clothing. In June of 2024, Heuermann was charged with 2 more homicides of women on Long Island, Sandra Costilla, 28, (11/21/1993 - found in Southampton) and Jessica Taylor, 20 (7/26/2003, aka Jane Doe #5) a NYC escort whose remains (torso) were found in the woods in Manorville. In December of 2024, Heuermann was charged with a 7th indictment relating to the homicide of Valerie Mack, 24, aka Jane Doe #6, a Philly escort who was never reported missing but was last seen in spring/summer of 2000- Valerie's partial remains (torso) found in Manorville in September 2000. Since his arrest, Heuermann, through his attorney Michael Brown, has maintained his innocence, despite an avalanche of evidence against him, including hairs found on some of the victims, a manifesto found on his computer and cellphone/location data forensic evidence. In a shocking turn of events, Heuermann changed his plea to Guilty on 4/8/26 and additionally admitted and pleaded to an 8th homicide for which he had not been charged- that of Karen Vergata, fka Fire Island Jane Doe, or Jane Doe # 7. Karen was last seen on Valentine's Day in 1996; her legs were found near Fire Island in 1996, her skull was found 15 years later near Gilgo Beach, but she was not positively identified publicly until August of 2023.
