Lindsay Clancy picked up the phone and called a crisis line. Twice. Neither psychiatrist treating her knew about it until a defense attorney raised it in open court. Tony Brueski and retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke take listener questions on what that gap actually means. The calls appear in Clancy's own civil filings, describing a woman who recognized something was wrong and went looking for help. Dr. Jennifer Tufts, her outpatient psychiatrist, testified she never knew. Dr. Alia Goodheart, who treated her at McLean Hospital, said the same. Goodheart also acknowledged on cross-examination that she doesn't believe she's ever treated a patient with postpartum psychosis, and couldn't say how many postpartum depression patients she'd seen across twenty years. This episode also opens Day 10 of the trial, when defense attorney Kevin Reddington spent hours cross-examining Tufts. He established that all fourteen of her appointments with Clancy happened over video, that she never spoke to Clancy's parents, and that she never asked Clancy to sign a release that would have opened her file from a separate perinatal clinic. He pressed her on a treatment she considered but couldn't prescribe outpatient, a 2021 study on thyroid function and postpartum psychosis she hadn't read, and blood testing she declined to order. The state's cross painted the opposite picture: Clancy booked her own appointments, drove herself to an emergency room, and never showed a sign of psychosis in front of Tufts.
