Donna Adelson, the 75-year-old Miami Beach grandmother, is set to stand trial in August 2025 for her alleged role in the 2014 murder-for-hire of her former son-in-law, Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. Charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation, Adelson is accused of orchestrating the killing following a contentious custody dispute between Markel and her daughter, Wendi Adelson. Her son, Charlie Adelson, was convicted in 2023 for his involvement in the murder. Donna Adelson was arrested in November 2023 while attempting to board a flight to Vietnam, a non-extradition country, and has been in custody since.
