Gypsy Rose Blanchard described prison as a place where she finally learned who she was. After years living under Dee Dee Blanchard’s control, she entered custody with what she described as a second-grade education. At Chillicothe, she could study, make friends her own age, and begin making ordinary decisions. The woman convicted for her role in her mother’s death said incarceration gave her freedoms she had never known at home. Her stepmother Kristy told reporters Gypsy would choose jail over returning to her mother. Her lawyer said she gained fourteen pounds in county jail. Those details became part of the public debate about the harm she experienced, the choice she made with Nicholas Godejohn, and what accountability could look like after prison. Then came December 2023. Gypsy was released, reunited with Ryan Anderson, and confronted a social-media following measured in millions. Their marriage ended. She reconnected with former prison fiancé Ken Urker, and the two became parents to Aurora. The change from institutional schedules to very public relationships was immediate. In a July 2025 livestream, Gypsy appeared to slur her words while Ken tried to end the broadcast. Reporting described her reaching toward the phone. A brief clip can document conduct on camera, but it cannot explain a person’s entire mental state or relationship. Ken died on October 1, 2026. Louisiana authorities reported no signs of foul play, and an official cause of death had not been established in the reporting checked.
