A serial killer's motives are often driven by simple, depraved sexual fantasies that may not make logical sense to the average person.

“It's just I have a fantasy and I need to do that thing. I have a sexual proclivity and I have to do that thing and that's it. And we just don't understand that.”

Planning or logical-seeming behavior does not necessarily disprove that a person is suffering from a psychosis that prevents rational thought.

“The planning and the psychosis, they're not opposites. But they are in support of the psychosis when they go through these steps.”

Charles Manson exhibits the personality traits of a psychopath or sociopath who uses manipulation tactics instead of physically committing the crimes himself.

“Manson is interesting to me because I think he's a psychopath, and he uses a lot of psychological manipulation versus like the true murder.”

Serial killers are psychopaths who lack empathy and cannot authentically experience remorse.

“Every single serial killer I've ever worked with as a psychopath and they have absolutely no empathy whatsoever. They would find it impossible to walk in your shoes. They know what pain is, but they don't feel pain and they don't feel your pain.”

She contends that serial killers suffer from a mental defect that makes them fundamentally different from typical criminals driven by rational motives.

“I always have trouble with serial killer cases because I I believe they have a mental defect. And because of this defect, it is very hard for me to understand. Um, other crimes are about uh there's a motive, there's opportunity, there's um, you know, the the preservation of money, a marriage, no mat”

Eleanor Neale claims that the fact that Irina Gaidamachuk was a mother should not have been considered as a mitigating factor in her sentencing.

“The fact that Arena is a mom shouldn't have even come into this trial in my opinion. I don't know. I feel like that could possibly be a hot take, but I reckon slam them extra 5 years on her cuz [ __ ] that.”

The fundamental problem of malevolence is an individual issue that requires personal engagement with one's own capacity for evil.

“I became convinced that the fundamental issue of malevolence was an individual issue. So the fundamental problem with Nazi Germany is the Oshwitz camp guard who's a normal person who enjoys his work. That's the problem.”

Most mass shooters are not acting due to uncontrollable mental illness but are making a conscious decision-making process involving planning and behavioral steps.

“most of these cases you're talking about people who are angry, isolated, um depressed, um and feel increasingly like violence is the only solution to their problem. But they're making a choice. It's a decision-making process and it's a planning process that leads up to the attack.”

Childhood abuse does not excuse or justify the actions of individuals who grow up to be serial killers.

“There are the the vast majority of people who get a raw deal as kids don't grow up to be [ __ ] monsters, do they? So, it's no [ __ ] excuse.”

Criminals use 'signs' and 'demons' as a way to justify their selfish desires and to separate themselves from accountability.

“It's just you trying to justify your bad acts and making it seem like there's another force at hand outside of your own will and outside of your own ability to choose the difference between right and wrong.”
