14 years after a 19-year-old college sophomore named Faith Hedgepeth was found beaten to death in her apartment, the trial of Miguel Salguero-Olivares is finally underway. A jury settled in for the opening statements by the prosecution and defense in a case that baffled investigators for more than a decade. The state claims that Olivares left DNA everywhere on the victim, in the victim and through the crime scene, and that he killed her in a fit of rage after creeping through an unlocked door. The defense says the state's DNA case has holes you could drive a truck through, attacking the chain of custody, the handling of evidence, and the unanswered questions around the investigation. In this episode we break down both opening statements with actual courtroom video, walk through the night of September 6-7, 2012, the nine years the case sat cold, the genetic genealogy breakthrough, and what to watch as testimony continues, including the cross-examination of roommate Karena Rosario. #MiguelSalgueroOlivares #FaithHedgepeth #murder #unsolved #DNA #forensic #truecrime #trial #coldcase #justiceforfaith #ProfilingEvil #CourtTV #OpeningStatements #KarenaRosario #ChapelHill #DurhamNC ======================================== Website: www.ProfilingEvil.com ======================================== Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com ======================================== 💳 DONATE: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=T54JX76RZ455S 💵 PayPal: https://paypal.me/profilingevil 🕵️BECOME A MEMBER: https://www.youtube.com/profilingevil/join 🛒SHOP MERCH: https://www.profilingevil.com/profilingevilshop 📖SHOP BOOKS: https://www.profilingevil.com/store
