In this 203rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode we once again discuss college presidents, in light of what is happening at Harvard and other elite schools. We talk about historical and bureaucratic constraint, Evergreen, consulting firms, and plagiarism, and, in a related story, how someone acting on behalf of the Mayor of Boston mistakenly invited all 13 city councilors to a holiday party, when she meant to invite only the 6 who are “electeds of color.” Then: what do morbid curiosity and predator inspection have in common? People seem to be dying at high rates, and in new contexts, but is this actually the case? How would we know? What do the global excess mortality data suggest? Then: rules to live by, as acknowledged by us at Hanukkah. ***** Our sponsors: Vivo Barefoot: Shoes for healthy feet—comfortable and regenerative, enhances stability and tactile feedback.
