Dancehall’s original angel, Angie Angel, stopped by the Entertainment Report Podcast while in Toronto for an engaging conversation about the highs, lows and defining moments of her career. Angie Angel shares her excitement about reconnecting with Sister Nancy in Toronto after nearly 30 years, how she first met Patra, and the story behind recording her hit song “Agony” for Shocking Vibes with help from Tony Kelly. She also recalls Ninjaman bringing her onto her first major show, why he believed in her talent, and her experiences recording with Billy Mystic and Mystic Revealers. The conversation continues with a chance meeting with Judy Mowatt that led to a collaboration, her longtime friendship with Capleton and the support he offered along the way. Angie also explains how meeting Tony Rebel at Penthouse led to her introduction to Garnet Silk, who encouraged her to move away from sexually explicit dancehall lyrics and embrace conscious music. In a candid reflection on the challenges she faced, Angie opens up about feeling shut out by industry gatekeepers, stepping away from music and working at Amazon, where one fateful night became a turning point. She also discusses her upcoming EP, her journey forward and much more.
