Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty in federal court to two stalking counts in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson — and he did it with no plea deal, no agreement, nothing negotiated. Then, within hours, his lawyers filed to kill the state murder case entirely. Mangione told the court, in his own words, that he stalked Thompson to an investor conference, posed as an investor managing tens of billions to get the exact location, printed a gun on a 3D printer, and traveled to New York planning to kill him. He said he knew it was illegal. He showed no remorse. He never once referred to Brian Thompson as a father, a husband, or a person.
