Andrea Navedo didn’t get to see many positive portrayals of Latinas in the media growing up. So when she had the chance to play a starring role on Jane the Virgin, a role that cast her as a complex, flawed, and genuine Latina single mother, she jumped all over the opportunity. Now she focuses on making the most of her ability to influence and inspire others who grew up the same way she did. On this episode of Women of Impact with Lisa Bilyeu, Andrea Navedo tells her story of surviving abusive relationships, dealing with endless rejection, and eventually triumphing in the entertainment industry. She also talks about how to listen compassionately to your own internal dialogue, discusses why fame and validation did not make her feel better about herself, and explains why she never plays the victim.
