Join award-winning journalist, filmmaker, and author Peter Godwin with Booker Prize-winning novelist Marlon James on family, belonging, and the complex threads that bind us to place and memory — and Godwin’s powerful new memoir, Exit Wounds. In the final months of his mother’s life, Peter Godwin is stitching together a divided identity — from his childhood in Zimbabwe to his career as a war correspondent, Godwin must come to terms with the secrets he and his mother kept from one another, a relationship riven by silences, and the beauty of the wildly different places they called home. Exit Wounds tells the story of this personal excavation on a transatlantic scale — a deeply moving story of family, memory, and migration that only Godwin can tell. In a special reading and conversation, hear Godwin and Marlon James — friends, mutual admirers, and master storytellers of the interwoven narratives that define our identities — as they discuss the art of the memoir, the long journey toward making peace with our personal histories, and much more.
