She was a labor and delivery nurse. She spent her career in the room where life begins. She had the medical vocabulary to describe exactly what was happening to her — and she used it. She showed up at doctors' offices, hospitals, and emergency rooms. She kept detailed records of her own symptoms. She told them what she was hearing. She asked for help. And according to the civil lawsuits now filed in her case, the system kept moving her along. This week's look back at the most compelling stories in true crime examines who Lindsay Clancy was before January 24th, 2023 — and what the medical system allegedly failed to see while she was standing right in front of them. Postpartum anxiety after her first child, Cora. Something harder after Dawson — bipolar disorder symptoms that, according to expert analysis cited in her civil lawsuit, allegedly went undiagnosed for years. Then Callan arrived in May 2022, and people close to her said she seemed like a different person entirely. The medical timeline is staggering. A December 2022 hospital admission where a doctor ruled out postpartum depression and bipolar disorder after what the lawsuit describes as an inadequate assessment — a finding prosecutors now cite as key evidence. A New Year's Eve admission to McLean Hospital, one of the most well-regarded psychiatric institutions in the country, where Lindsay reportedly waited three days to see a doctor and was discharged after five. The return of auditory hallucinations eleven days later. Approximately thirteen medications prescribed in roughly four months. Virtual appointments described in the lawsuit as too short to see what was happening. And on January 23rd — the day before three children died — a psychiatric appointment lasting approximately 17 minutes on a video screen, ending with a dosage increase. In January 2026, Lindsay and her husband Patrick filed separate civil lawsuits against the named providers. Both describe what they call a disorganized, uncoordinated course of polypharmacy. Lindsay faces three counts of first-degree murder. Her defense will argue she was legally insane. Trial is scheduled for July 2026. Postpartum psychosis is still not in the DSM.
