For months, six women were held captive inside a North Philadelphia rowhouse while the man responsible lived an ordinary life just above them. Josefina Rivera, Sandra Lindsay, Lisa Thomas, Deborah Dudley, Jacqueline Askins, and Agnes Adams were mothers, daughters, sisters, and women trying to survive when their lives intersected with Gary Heidnik. Two of them would never make it home. The other four endured unimaginable abuse and torture before one courageous escape exposed what would become known as Philadelphia's "House of Horrors." In this episode of Black Girl Gone, I tell the story of the six women whose lives were forever changed, the failures that allowed their captivity to continue, and the courage that ultimately brought one of America's most notorious killers to justice.
