Wisdom Booklet 36 taught that if a woman does not cry out when she is attacked, God holds her equally guilty with her attacker. That is not a paraphrase. That is the direct teaching of material written by Bill Gothard and distributed as curriculum to thousands of families through the Institute in Basic Life Principles. Children as young as five sat in front of this material. A little girl who could barely read was already being taught the framework — if something happens to you, the first question is not what happened. It is what did you do wrong. By the time a child reached Booklet 36, the groundwork had already been laid. Booklet 15 quizzed children on "eye traps" in women's clothing — teaching girls that their bodies were spiritual hazards responsible for the thoughts of the men around them. Earlier booklets taught that adopted children carried inherited sin from their birth parents. That mental illness did not exist — it was a spiritual failure. That rock music was more addictive than crack cocaine. That Cabbage Patch dolls caused difficult childbirth. All of this was printed in official IBLP publications and taught to families using the same Duggar curriculum. The organization's medical arm — the Medical Training Institute of America — operated without a single licensed doctor. It issued health guidance dressed in spiritual language that replaced actual medicine with obedience doctrine. Children raised in this system were taught that their bodies, their minds, and their pain were problems to be solved through submission, not treatment. And the man who wrote it all — Bill Gothard — was accused of sexual harassment by more than thirty women. He built a system that pre-installed silence in an entire generation of girls before anything had even happened to them. The modesty doctrine told them their bodies caused sin. The victim-blaming framework told them their pain was their fault. The authority structure told them the men above them could not be questioned. By the time abuse occurred inside these families, the curriculum had already built the cage. This is the system the Duggar family promoted to millions of viewers on national television. This is what was in those Wisdom Booklets. And this is the damage it did to the children who believed every word.
