He believes the U.S. should enact a constitutional amendment to authorize Congress and the states to reasonably regulate and limit contributions and spending in campaigns.

“Nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to forbid Congress or the states within their respective jurisdictions from reasonably regulating and limiting contributions and spending in campaigns, elections, and ballot measures.”

Bernie Sanders advocates for the reversal of the Citizens United decision and the implementation of a public funding system for elections to reduce the influence of money in politics.

“And if we're going to save American democracy, uh, we've got to get rid of this, in my view, you got to get rid of this campaign, this Citizens United Supreme Court decision. And you got to move to public funding of elections.”

The Citizens United Supreme Court decision has facilitated a harmful flood of money into the American political system.

“now there's there's a couple of ways that people have talked about addressing the problems of the money that is flooding into our system as it has since the citizens united decision of 2010”

Legislators should enact caps on the amount of money candidates can give and receive to curb the influence of money in elections.

“Like put caps, amount of money you could give, Heather, and the amount of money I could receive as a candidate. Put caps on that. That would be great for people who give money to campaigns because they get calls every day, emails every day and at the end of the quarter, you can multiply that by 100”

Super PACs should be banned, or at the very least, they should be subject to the same contribution limits as individual candidates.

“Just have the same limits on super PACs as you have for candidates, and that would ban super PACs.”

The Supreme Court's decision to strike down campaign spending limits grants wealthy donors excessive influence and shifts power away from regular citizens.

“And by doing that, it gives more power to rich people, less power to regular people.”

He supports overturning Citizens United, potentially through a constitutional amendment, to curb the influence of large corporations and billionaires on elections.

“We may need a constitutional amendment to be able to do that. I think you look at some of the models out there like the Montana model which we may be able to be able to effectively do that at the state level or maybe even at the at the federal level hopefully.”
