Human beings are evolutionarily predisposed to seek and hoard resources due to an ancestral survival instinct that is currently exploited by modern technology and corporations.

“our brain is almost quote unquote programmed to sort of fall into this thing cuz it was so important for our survival for all of time”

He believes that scarcity is a numbing state that prevents people from recognizing that they have alternatives to improve their lives.

“So , for me, scarcity is a numbing effect on society, and that's where I say, there's a lot to be done because, well, we live in Argentina, you're experiencing it, many families on the street”

Don identifies his tendency to constantly seek out side work and hustle as a lingering effect of his past scarcity mindset.

“Just the other day, I was out and I was like, "Oh, I could probably do Uber Eats and pick up a few extra bucks." And I'm like, "Wait, why why am I thinking that way?" Mhm. But that's just how we're we're so wired at this point.”

Tana acknowledges that the stress of potential job loss and her past financial struggles has caused her to have a persistent fear of losing their newfound stability.

“So the stress now is more so about um not screwing it up. We've had a lot of stuff happen to us throughout the years. And so we're kind of always waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

Serena believes her cautious spending habits are deeply ingrained and influenced by her immigrant upbringing.

“I'm always my first inclination is to always feel really stressed and anxious but I can't afford something even before I even see if I can”

She acknowledges that her scarcity mindset, stemming from her upbringing, prevents her from fully enjoying her accomplishments or investing in services that would improve her quality of life.

“I would love to kind of unleash whatever restrictions or limiting beliefs that I have with my conservative spending habits.”

She admits that her intense focus on financial management is driven by a need for safety and security rather than actual necessity.

“What I why I obsess about money is for safety. I'm obsessed about it from a sense of like security.”

Jennifer believes it is unnecessary for her partner to maintain a famish mindset because they have the financial resources to afford better.

“I always tell him that you deserve good things. You don't have to like be in this famish mindset all the time.”
