The rapid changes in technology and the decline of independent play since 2010 have triggered an epidemic of mental illness among the Gen Z generation.

Kendall Rae suggests that society should focus more on teaching young people how to handle conflict resolution and rejection to help prevent harmful behaviors.

“can you imagine what it would look like if we spent more time as a society helping younger people understand how to handle rejection and obviously that can be taught at later stages of life as well”

The decline in young people's mental health is a direct result of austerity and specific educational policy changes implemented since 2010.

“And I actually wrote to Michael Gove in 2012 and I said there's going to be a mental health crisis as a result of these changes. That, of course, happened alongside austerity, which meant that young people didn't have access to those types of activities in their communities either.”
