Membership in motorcycle clubs like the Mongols can serve as a substitute for gang life while providing a sense of camaraderie, though it often involves significant ego-driven violence.

“So, for me it it was the excitement of being on my bike and traveling and being on the road and you know, always having people to hang out with and party with. Unfortunately, what comes with that, right, is um being there for your club and sticking up for your club and and there's a lot of ego that ”

Chuck Zito explains that he joined the Hell's Angels through his existing friendships and his skill as a motorcycle painter.

“Other Hell's Angels saw me paint and I started painting theirs and next thing you know I was hanging out with them and I became a Hell's Angel.”

He asserts that police and prison authorities maintain strict racial segregation in prison environments, which effectively prevents Black individuals from being members of certain motorcycle clubs.

“They didn't have black people in the club. They thought it was like a racist thing. They did it because uh it was all all to do with going to prison. You know how how they're segregated in the prison.”
