TikTok should be divested to prevent a foreign power from controlling a platform that serves as a powerful influence tool in American society.

“This thing is far too powerful for the CCP to have any kind of access to it for the Chinese government to have any kind of access to it it has to be divested”

The United States is within its rights to demand the divestiture of TikTok to an entity separate from the Chinese Communist Party if evidence shows data sharing.

“look if it's true that Tik Tok is sharing data with the CCP then I think the United States is well within rights to either ban it or cause it to be divested and I personally like the divesture option I mean that's what Trump was suggesting during his term”

The push to ban TikTok is motivated by commercial competitors wanting market share and a desire to control a media outlet that cannot be censored as easily as Western platforms.

“Mark Zuckerberg and obviously Google for example absolutely want to eviscerate Tik Tok because they want to be Tik Tok they see every moment that people are spending on Tik Tok is a moment they could be spending on YouTube shorts or Instagram reals”

The legislation to ban TikTok will likely not be successful because many institutional investors have a strong financial interest in the app remaining active.

“I don't think it's gonna get banned I think that the ownership structure of bite dance is complicated but I think people just don't understand exactly how much of bite dance is also owned by like Americans”

Josh intends to interview people about the TikTok ban to highlight the cultural disconnect between Gen Z and the older generation.

“They're definitely, you know, like playing with uh more like Gen Z versus kind of, you know, the older generation, and that like disconnect is more of where we wanted to go with it”
