The documentary Dead Asleep is problematic because it focuses excessively on the perpetrator while including misleading information and disregarding the feelings of the victim's family.

“And when I talk to them, I think the main reason that they are upset above all else is that this documentary really seems to be focused on Brook's killer and it's less about Brooke. And there's also just a lot of misleading information in the documentary that I'm hoping we can kind of clear up today”

The documentary The Crash gave too much screen time and platform to the perpetrator Mackenzie and her parents.

“I think, you know, I kind of walked away with it. I think for the most part it was, you know, pretty decent, but I think it it maybe gave a little bit too much to McKenzie. Um, and I agree fully and her parents, too. And I'm like, why the hell do we even need to hear from them”

Abby Howard found the Quiet on Set documentary deeply upsetting and indicative of the risks child actors face when working in environments where they lack support.

“It made me sick for like days after watching it I couldn't stop thinking about it I could not stop thinking about Drake Bell and what happened to them”

Matt Howard believes the sentence received by the perpetrator of the abuse depicted in the documentary was insufficient for the severity of the crimes.

“16 months you do all those horrible things to a kid and you only get 16 months in prison that blew my mind”

The HBO documentary on Adnan Syed appears to be presenting only one side of the story.

“and and and definitely the HBO thing is doing the same thing. >> Well, and I >> so I think I think what we have here is, you know, Jay refers to himself as the criminal element of the high school.”

True crime media generally only provides a portion of the story to the audience.

“And when I say whole story, we're getting it through through choice lenses, through we're getting parts of the story. And and that's going to be how all true crime stuff is.”
