The filibuster is essential to the Senate's function as a deliberative body because it forces consensus and moderation.

“And people keep saying, get rid of the filibuster. That's the holy grail to democracy as we know it. Because without it, we wouldn't be the country we are now. It forced us to sit down in one of the bodies to s cal calm things down and talk to our friends over in the House”

Ending the Senate filibuster would be a dangerous move that ultimately harms the party currently in power when they eventually lose their majority.

“So I think it'd be very very dangerous to end the filibuster. I think Trump knows that uh because once they lose power, if and when they lose power, they're going to want it, you know, and so this is a weird thing that's going on right now that Trump is pushing for on truth social posts.”

Senator Kennedy believes the Senate is designed to move slowly in order to kill bad legislation.

“Part the the Senate is assigned in part for that for that purpose. Um about half of my job is to advance good ideas. The other half of my job is to kill bad ideas and and that uh in large part explains why the Senate moves so slowly. I think our founders intended it too.”

The impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden lacks factual evidence and functions as a distraction.

“I don't again, I don't know what the allegations of the impeachment inquiry would be, except that Hunter Biden did some bad things. And the Republicans think that Joe Biden was involved but have so far, after five years, turned up absolutely no proof whatsoever that he was.”

The push for an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden is a politically counterproductive and groundless endeavor.

“It has absolutely no purpose. It is politically counterproductive in every single way I can possibly imagine.”

The impeachment inquiry is a political circus and a distraction that should not be a priority for Congress.

“this is such a circus it's like what do they say you elect a clown it doesn't make the place at Kingdom it makes it a circus”

Republican legislators are failing the electorate by choosing not to end the filibuster to pass their agenda.

“Trump is right and Republicans could end the filibuster at any moment and push through his agenda, but they don't do it. This uh this is not good news as far as I'm concerned because the American people voted for the Republicans to get the job done and they're choosing not to.”

The blue slip process is an arbitrary and outdated custom that gives senators illegitimate veto power and should be abolished.

“There's no law, there's no article in the Constitution about the blue slip process. It's totally arbitrary. It's completely made up. It it doesn't have any basis in anything, not even in any like ancient legal traditions or anything like that. It's just made up.”
