Being a comedian requires continuous work on one's act even when the material is mostly finished.

A comedian should not flake on scheduled gigs.

“That was a mistake and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have flaked on.”

Performing stand-up comedy involves significant personal and financial costs, making it a challenging career choice.

“I don't get to work from home because I picked a job where I come to your town and try to make you laugh at all costs, emotional and otherwise. I'm truly breaking even at this point because I have to spend so much money on bringing my son and my filmer and going to every aquarium”

He asserts that comedians should avoid lying about their personal lives to build a stage persona.

“I remember if someone had told me be the same person on stage as you are off stage it will be a prison if you lie you know don't pretend you're married if you're not in vice versa I remember going I I got it right away I was like God with the universe whoever put that in my path”

Shane Gillis holds the view that the stand-up comedy scene is currently challenging because audiences primarily want to hear about sexual intercourse.

“they want to hear about sexual intercourse that's the type of jokes they like tell them I don't have many sexual intercourse jokes anymore”

He prefers a traditional approach to job hunting and dislikes the concept of reducing one's professional worth to a resume.

“i can't be reduced to a [ __ ] sheet of paper be like just sir please leave right now or write a memoir and like here's my here's my [ __ ] resume bro for what job are you talking any job labor i don't know i'll be like a roofer”

Tony Hinchcliffe acknowledges that the spread of coronavirus is causing the cancellation of live comedy shows and tours.

“but god hates me so he's canceling live shows right now that's what's happening”

He believes that comedians must love the people they are making fun of in order for the comedy to be effective.

“i do believe like i kid i do believe in healing mm-hmm and have you ever tried to sit down and go listen you may not see eye to eye with me but i want to let you know i am grateful for what you did and thank you”
