The character Danhausen was intentionally developed to be a more natural expression of his personality rather than the tough-guy persona he previously performed.

Dave Schmulenson views his character The Schmo as an extension of his own personality that allows him to express himself freely while mocking the industry's gatekeepers.

“I kind of created the character to mock the system say look you don't want to give david schmoltz a chance well I could do it better than the people you have in a position yeah I'll do it in character and that was my mindset”
