Using gendered and masculine language when describing directors reinforces bias against women and non-binary individuals in the industry.

“We often talk about muscular directors. Why in the hell are we calling them muscular? Do they pick up heavy objects on set? I don't see that. It's It's not what a film director does. Coffee cups are heavy. But the second we move to muscular language, we then now are masculine.”

Diverse creative teams create more innovative and interesting films.

“I mean, an inclusive diverse set is a far more interesting set to be on. Suddenly, you find, um, different jokes are told, different risks are taken in front of the camera and behind, you know, the what you get from a visual perspective is entirely different.”

Men in the film industry must be involved in mentorship and support to help drive systemic change for gender-marginalized filmmakers.

“We need men to support this program. We need men to be mentors in this program because men are the ones that hold the keys to getting these films made for the most part.”

Hollywood must actively diversify who is telling stories to ensure a broader range of perspectives and experiences are represented on screen.

“we all know Romeo and Juliet but from a female perspective that's very different from a person of color Romeo and Juliet's very different from you know an lgbtq perspective that story is very different and so I think we have to start tapping into different points of view and a study like this um rea”
